A Nice Story

I was at a conference this week and one of the speakers mentioned this blog post.

I think it’s kind of a nice story (warning it’s a little sad).

Beware of Tricks of the Trade with your Credit Card Company

I was looking at one of my credit card bills and saw a $39 late fee on the account. Did not understand how I was late. Well the statement closed around July 4th and it did not go out on that date, then with the weekends etc, I did not receive the bill until July 10th and mailed the payment in 3 days so it could be received on time. Needless to say turning that bill around in 3 days still was not fast enough. I got wacked with a late fee.

I told them what the heck is going on, they said sir you were late a couple times this year already. I then asked how is it all my other bills are paid on time and this card is always late…they then said the card had a very short payment cycle, meaning they were almost setting me up for late fees every month…

So just beware if you are not getting an appropriate time frame to pay a particular credit card bill. Particularly if you have late payments on one card only, they may be only giving you essentially a week to pay it, because they recommend allowing 7 to 10 business days for mailing time. Not sure where you live, but the mail should get to either coast in 2 to 4 business days…

The credit card company then gave me another week to send the payment. I then asked, are you giving me another week by closing my statement a week later, they said no. They were shorting me a week on the payment cycle on this particular card.

Make sure you look at your payment dates on your credit cards…

Interested in Your Golf Handicap?

I think I am just about able to understand a golf handicap…if you are interested in learning how to calculate your handicap, here is an article with a bunch of links that can not only help you calculate your handicap, but tell you your course handicap, and just about anything else that relates to your golf handicap.

Click Here to See the Link

One other golf tip from a golfer that previously never broke 100, keep your Driver, 3 Wood, and 60 degree lob wedge out of your bag. Also, use a fairway wood to do your work around the green. I played my last two rounds with this philiosophy and scored a 102 and a 93. The day I shot a 93, I could not miss a put. Let’s hope for more days like this.

Another thing I found that was helpful was to keep stats on my golf game. There are game logs that are sold that are about the size of one of the old assignment notebooks that are the size of a wallet. You can keep track of puts, pars, birdies, etc to see how your game is improving. I am kind of a stats nerd. Not that I understand them all that well, but I like to compare how I am doing relative to past performances…

Future Sky Caddy Customers Beware

Hey just wanted to let you know stay away from Sky Caddy that you see on TV and in golf stores. The first one I bought in a sealed box had a button that worked at times and then the screw/post that holds the Sky Caddy to your belt broke off. Luckily I heard the Sky Caddy fall into the grass.

I must admit it’s a cool product so I gave it another chance. I did think it was kind of weird they gave me no trouble returning it (sort of like it happens a lot). So then I played one full round of golf and about halfway into my second round of golf, the screw/post that holds the Sky Caddy to your belt broke off again and luckily I heard it hit the grass.

Here is the kicker, Sky Caddy is not refunding the golf membership that I payed $20 for. They said it was past the 30 days to request a refund. I told them it’s past 30 days because I gave your product a second chance and then it took their customer service reps another several weeks to respond to my refund request by telling me to call this number. I then called that number and they said they do not issue refunds after 30 days…

Wow…this product is about $400 with tax and another $20 for the annual subscription. No way would I do business with this company.

Alec’s First Hair Cut

My little guy does not make it up here too often. But I figured I would share a photo of his first hair cut. It’s amazing how much older he looks after the hair cut. Pretty soon he’ll be able to wear that first size of wrestling shoes…

Now for a little commercial to help pay the bills: Look out for the new Asic’s to be in the store next week. We expect the new Dan Gables to be in the store towards the end of the week if all goes well.

Jackson’s First Fishing Trip

Wow…my 2.5 year old actually caught this fish. I was helping a neighbor bait his hook and looked over to see my son’s bobber take a dive. Then I rushed over to help reel it in. Luckily it was close to the shore so we were able to reel it in…No fooling this is my son’s first fish. I hope he does not think this happens all the time…I bet this is the second biggest fish I have seen this up close and personal…can’t believe I did not think about the fishing line right across his face…we’ll get it right for his next big fish. He is available for guided fishing trips…

Any Golfers out There?

I thought this was a cool website to make yardage books so you can plan your rounds…

I never realized how much strategy there is to golf…It’s a lot more fun if you make a yardage book and try and execute your plan.

Let us know what you think…Simply go to Select Your State and then click on the city and if you click view it will give you a free yardage book for that course. Many of the courses at least near Illinois are there. I imagine with 8,000 in their database, they will have at least one course near you.
