Problems with Ears Cauliflower Ears That Is

Got an email today asking about Cauliflower Ears and what can be done about them. The wrestler’s ears are filling up with fluid that needs to be drained.

Here is my email back to them:

I am not sure if this helps or not, but I have seen some athletic trainers put extra foam around the inside of the head gear (usually I have seen it with the Cliff Keen Signature). The extra foam will give it a little extra room for his ear. Make sure the head gear is fit properly so it does not move around and cause injury to his ear.

My brother his Senior year had to have surgery on his ear (he saw a plastic surgeon that specialized in ears). He did have to sit out a few days of practice to let his ear heal properly (he lifted weights and did extra conditioning). He never had problems with his ears filling up again.

Not a medical doctor so talk to one about my ideas!

Two Wrestling Websites to Check Out

Almost 3,000 and by the end today hopefully, we will be able to say over 3,000 fans can’t be wrong. I think if you are a fan of this blog and check it regularly to find out what is hot in wrestling gear, one place you need to become a fan of is http://www.facebook.com/wrestlinggear it’s our facebook fan page and you don’t have to be a member of facebook to check it out. We try to have fun with the page and do a little selling too. Over the summer we talked about all the hot shoes and which ones you’d better buy sooner than later. Every now and then we will do a promotion or a giveaway to our fans.

Another site that we have been putting a lot of work into is http://www.wrestlingshoes.com - we plan to dedicate this to the wrestling shoes of the past, present and ideally future. Surely as soon as adidas, Nike, Matman and Asics make available future shoes we will shoot them and have them available to check out. In the off season, we will look to build our photos and pages of older wrestling shoes of days gone past. We do have some old pairs of shoes that we will shoot and likely will work with our vendors to try and build some of that history…especially looking to continue to shoot the older shoes in a variety of angles to give you a great image of that shoe.

Wrestling Kneepads Funky?

Do you get funky kneepdads?

Here are some things to consider - one is check out a product we sell - http://www.wrestlinggear.com/store/skincare-wrestling-products/1186-Odor-Aid.html it was being sold to football teams to spray their shoulder pads and other funky equipment. Think of it as a strong Fabreeze with added benefits of killing some bacteria and other stuff.

Now the key is to not get those kneepads funky to begin with. Left those bad boys out of your locker every day and don’t just bring them home and let them sit in your dark bag. Let them babies dry out and air out a little bit. And I say this not because I sell kneepads, but get a few pair and rotate those kneepads regularly don’t let the funk build in them.

Same concept for your shoes and your headgear and basically all your clothes. Don’t be like my wrestling team that used to have competitions about how bad their workout shirts would smell. Heck in colleges and camps at those colleges they tell the kids to bring another shirt and shorts to change into between practices breaks.

2009 New Hot Wrestling Shoes

So with this blog post, I am going to try and do two things. Identify what the new hot wrestling shoes are at wrestlinggear.com and what shoes are going to be hard to fnd come the start of the season (let’s say that date is November 1, but we know for you hardcore wrestling fans the season never ends). I’ll give some insight into what I think it going on and it may be the reason and it may not be the reason. Most of my vendors don’t explicitely say, but I’ll try to guess is the reason.

I went through my sales the past month or so and looked for shoes that I said wow - we sold a ton of those wrestling shoes. Looked at Nike wrestling shoes, adidas wrestling shoes and ASICS wrestling shoes primarily.

So here are some of the top new wrestling shoes to look at - I am not going to clog this blog post with a ton of url’s. Just click the links above to the different brands web pages and you should be able to find them. Keep in mind these are based on retail sales and not team sales or bulk buys.

Here is my list of hot new wrestling shoes for 2009

  1. Dan Gable Ultimate 2 - Black
  2. Cael Sanderson V4.0 - Black
  3. Nike Takedown

Here is my list of top wrestling shoes that are carry overs from prior years

  1. adistar - White
  2. Rulon’s - Black and Gold and Black and Red
  3. Response I - Black and Gold

And finally here is my list of top wrestling shoes you are going to have a hard time finding this year (or so we think)

  1. Rulon’s - Black and Gold and Black and Red
  2. adistar - White ( I believe we are the only dealer that has a full size run left in these)
  3. Nike Inflict - already gone in both colors (nothing available 9 to 11.5)
  4. Nike Takedown - very similar sole to the Inflict so this will be the shoe of choice for those that can’t get an Inflict
  5. Mat Flex - availability right now is very limited.

The surprise for me this year really is Nike and the Mat Flex. This is our first year selling Nike (not by choice - we have wanted them since we started in 1998). Inflicts are gone and now I think sales are flowing to the new Nike Takedown shoe because the outsole is very similar. I would not mess around if you want these shoes.

Rulon’s and adistars likely are basically gone this year. At the very least the White adistar is gone from the line, but we still have some in our inventory. Rulon’s will be hard to find this year likely because ASICS just simply did not make enough this year (or all the companies really booked it high and then added to their inventory when they sold well). Unfortunately we did not do this and we will likely run out before we get any significant Ruon’s in February and March.

Another thing to look out for is if you have to have a particular youth shoe or entry level shoe - I’d recommend getting it sooner than later too. I have been trying to put together team orders and the inventory is light on many shoes. I suspect this is a result of the economy and simply the vendors (just like I don’t) don’t want to get caught with a bunch of inventory.

And a final comment - remember you can shop at http://www.wrestlinggear.com for all your wrestling needs. Right now most orders are going out the same business day and almost all orders are shipped within the next business day. This means you get your gear quickly - and right now we have a special gift offer on our website. Put your gear in a shopping cart to see what it is.

Healthy Recipes

So we had some discussions on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/wrestlinggear) about healthier eating ideas. So I figured let’s create a blog post and let everyone post a comment preferably with a good recipe to help wrestlers make it through the season. I will try to get my friends recipe for Oatmeal Cookies (it might have been right off the box), but I remember those things tasted amazing!
